Dog Allergy Symptoms

Allergies can be triggered by different things, usually by food or something that comes in contact with us. These things are called allergens, which causes our immune system to create a reaction when they enter our bodies. Dogs are one type of allergens. Anyone from any age may have an allergy with dogs, and people who have them are also highly likely to be allergic to pollens and molds.

No one can really choose a dog because it is hypo-allergenic or it does not cause allergies. People who are allergic to dogs will always have their symptoms when exposed to any breed since it is the dander of dogs that make them allergens. There are, however, some breeds that produce less dander than other breeds. There are also ways of regulating the dander of dogs, such as bathing, grooming, and proper diet.

When the dander of a dog is not controlled, allergic people are very much susceptible to exhibiting the symptoms of their allergies. One of the most common manifestations of dog allergies is asthma. Although it may also be true that some asthma attacks are triggered directly by dog allergens, it is also possible that the asthma is just one of the symptoms of dog allergies.

Dog allergies also have other effects on the respiratory system, such as sneezing, runny nose, nasal congestion, itchy nose, coughing, scratchy and sore throat and breathing difficulty. The dog allergy may also manifest on the skin, in form of hives and rashes. The eyes of allergic persons may also turn teary and itchy.

As with any other types of allergies, the best way to prevent dog allergies is to avoid exposure to god allergens. If you would really like to keep a dog, you always have to wash your hands after touching and playing with your dogs. Since dog allergens are minute and can stay airborne for a long time, your house needs to be cleaned frequently. The dogs must also stay away from areas where you spend a lot of time.
